The U.S. Embassy in Caracas has also resumed phased operations as of March 2026. And perhaps most importantly for travellers, Venezuela launched a fully online e-Visa system in April 2026 — meaning Americans can now apply for a tourist visa entirely from home, with no consulate visit required.

What Is the Venezuela Tourist e-Visa?
The Venezuela tourist visa (Visa T) is required for all U.S. citizens travelling to Venezuela for tourism, recreation, health, or cultural purposes. Once approved, it is typically valid for up to one year. It allows multiple entries to Venezuela, and a maximum stay of 90 days per visit.
As of April 6, 2026, Venezuela implemented a mandatory electronic visa system for U.S. nationals. The entire process is completed online through the official Cancillería Digital portal of the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MPPRE). Upon approval, your visa is delivered directly to your email address — no physical stamp or in-person appointment required.

How Long Does It Take?
With all of your application documents ready, submitting your visa application can take as little as 1 hour. Once submitted, your visa can take up to 4 weeks to process after payment is confirmed.
Because processing times can vary based on application volume, plan to submit your application at least 2 months before your travel date — although we recommend doing so further in advance.
What You Will Need

- Valid U.S. passport with at least 6 months of validity beyond your travel date and at least 2 blank pages for stamps
- An American family member contact (full name, date of birth, and a photo of their passport)
- An American non-family member contact (full name, email address, phone number, and passport number)
For the Visa Application: (30 minutes)
- Valid U.S. passport with at least 6 months of validity beyond your travel date
- Passport-style photo with a white background
- Completed Tourist Visa Application Form (available for download on this site)
- Round-trip flight itinerary, including your flight code, travel date, and departure time (see note for Nahua travellers)
- Bank statement or proof of financial solvency
- Hotel reservation or accommodation documentation (see note for Nahua travellers)
- Criminal background check or sworn declaration (read more below for advice on how to acquire this)
- Credit or debit card to pay the $180 USD application fee
Note for Nahua Expeditions Travellers: U.S. citizens joining our Roraima Expedition will need two documents that are specific to our itinerary: a flight itinerary and proof of accommodation in Venezuela. Because our expedition enters Venezuela via a land-crossing at the Pacaraima border crossing, your round-trip flight information to Boa Vista will need to be presented as your flight itinerary, supplemented by our trip itinerary. Step 1 — Create Your Account
First register for an account on the Cancilleria Digital portal. Account set-up will require email confirmation.

Once logged in, start a request for you visa application.

Step 3 — Fill In Your Travel Details
The application form will be pre-filled with your personal information. You will need to complete your travel details — transport type, ticket number, travel date, and arrival time.
Note for Nahua Travellers: Because the visa application currently only supports air travel for entry into Venezuela, you can use your flight information to Boa Vista, Brazil instead of a flight directly into Venezuela. Border entry information into Venezuela will also need to be provided in supported documentation in the next step.
Step 4 — Attach Your Documents
Upload all of the required documents listed in the application portal.
- Passport
- Passport-style photo (white background, JPG, color, minimum 1920x1080px, max 3MB)
- Completed Tourist Visa Application Form (downloaded from https://mppre.gob.ve/cancilleria-digital)
- Flight itinerary (with supplemental border crossing information provided by Nahua Expeditions)
- Bank statement / proof of financial solvency
- Hotel reservation or accommodation documentation (provided by Nahua Expeditions)
- Criminal background check (read more on this below)
Step 5 — Finalize and Submit
When you have checked that all of your documents are complete and correct, submit your application. Once the visa request is submitted, you will receive an email notification with your application summary.
Important: Once you submit your application, you cannot make any changes. Make sure all details are correct before proceeding.
Step 6 — Complete Payment
After finalizing, you will receive a confirmation email with your application number. Return to the portal to complete payment of $180 USD by credit or debit card. Once payment is confirmed, you will receive email updates on its status.
Step 7 — Receive Your e-Visa by Email
Once approved, your tourist visa will be delivered to your email address. Download and save a copy — you will need to present it upon arrival in Venezuela.
